August 29, 2006, 9:40 am : Lauren - The Story Behind the Song
Filed Under: SongsDiscussion: C[0]mments
So you want to know who Lauren is huh? Well here is the truth and here is a pre-emptive “Im sorry.”
After college I moved into an apartment complex with a buddy from Cleveland. He only knew me from Nashville and I had a friend that lived a few doors down. Her best friend was a girl named Lauren. In the effort of having something cheap to do on a Wednesday night, we would get a few bottles of wine and invite them over to watch Felicity.
I hated Felicity but in keeping in good graces with them Mike acted like he liked it. Anyway Lauren would come over every Wednesday with here free spirit. Her dark hair. Making no buts about the fact that she was dating 3 guys. She flirted with both of us. At times both of us found ourselves being attracted to Lauren.
We would ease into the subject so not to offend the other, then laugh at how stupid we were in even thinking that we would want to be one of the many. Lauren would say that each of the guys were so different.
One had a great job and was nice but was not exciting enough. One was broke but a blast and one was a model that owned the nightlife. Each ones great trait made up the perfect man. She defined herself by the guys she dated. And was endearing enough that we all came along.
That is Lauren. We miss you Lauren!
Listen to Lauren and hear the rest.

Hey there everyone. I just wanted to take a moment to give you a glimpse into my last road trip. Last Friday we jumped into the van to head down to Cleveland. I thought it would be fun to bring the dogs. Yea not so much, it is a 14 hour trip.
About 4 hours into it, one of my Dogs, Gizmo started not feeling good. He was in the back seat alone and he started walking back and forth acting really weird. Then a horrific smell emanated from the rear of bench. I look back and see my dogs jumping up front with us.
Discovering that they are leaving a monstrous liquidy poop in the the back. Realizing which dog was the culperate i let the innocent dog up but left the guilty one back there for fear of an after shock and yes it came covering my back pack and seat.
Oooooo, terrible. The only thing we could do is role down the windows and pray for an exit. When one came we hit the first store we could find which happened to be a Dollar General store. We got so many carpet cleaners and bushes, paper towels and 4 air fresheners. We spent 20 minutes cleaning up getting all we could. Then back into the beast for the rest of the 10 hours in a van that smelled like oranges and dog poop. Bummer.
Thanks Giz!

So Sorry it has been a few days since my last post. This last week has been Crazy. A Guitarist friend of mine from Cleveland is on tour with the show RENT who just so happened to be in KC the same time as me. So, Me wanting to see what my Brother, Joe Parker has been up to on and off for the last few years, went to see Rent.
What a show, I mean the stage performance was great but the audience “people watching” was unbelievable. These folks come out in retro 80s garb and just live the words man. It was hilarious.
After the show I met up with Joe and the cast and we hit Downtown KC life. After experiencing the franchise wonder of bars. I decided this was enough of Chotchkies, and asked if I could show them a real locals place. So I loaded up the Band Van and led the rest of their Car service to The Black Horse. It was phenomenal. Great company Cold Beer. Big personalities. We headed back to their hotel split a bottle of wine and passed the guitar till 4:30 it was a blast.
August 15, 2006, 10:22 am : Are You Talking to Me?
Am I the only one who thinks the world may be going a little nuts. Have you guys noticed the blue tooth syndrome. In walking downtown from one place to another I have been seeing alot of folks talking to themselves.
At first I always think, why is this stranger talking so loud “at me” because they always seem like there making direct points, either “just get it done” or “he is not worth it girl”.
So my first reaction is to see if they need help, but then there is the moment of oh, there not talking to me. Like that second when you think someone is waving to you but then you realize they are focused on the person right behind you. So you slowly drop your hand as if you were never waving. Or the moment when someone your talking to answers a blue tooth call in the middle of a conversation, hinking that they can have two conversations at once.
Here is a memo for you…… YOU CANT, all that happens is everyone gets confused.
So here it is, if you want to use your phone in public DO IT. Just open your phone so that the world realizes that your talking to someone on the other end of a wireless digital line.
Maybe I am just bummed that I dropped my blue tooth in the shower, forgeting it was in my ear.
August 11, 2006, 11:21 am : What is This Whole Silent Treatment Thing?
Hello Everyone. I have a question for the world. Can someone explain the whole silent treatment thing. When a guy has a problem with a another guy there is quickly a few choice words maybe followed by a flying fist depending on the severity of the offense. The fist may find an area often followed by “oooo Charley Horse” or the most severe, the black eye, and the problem is resolved before the bruise purples.
But then there is the Silent Treatment. Now again I am a Male so this could be my trouble with my understanding. See with my “wonderful” perception I often miss that my offenses have rendered me “The Silent Treatment”.
This finds me in even more hot water. I guess if you are receiving the silent treatment and you don’t acknowledge it. You might be escalating the issue by being considerate and ignoring the person. When really I might have just thought it was quiet, or I just talk on, not even realizing a subject needs to be addressed.
All this to say ladies, From all guys. WE ARE SORRY, I am not sure what we did but I do know we are Definitely Sorry. Especially for not recognizing the Silent treatment but to our benefit I think the X chromosome stands as a blocker for this.
Again I believe we are Sorry…
August 9, 2006, 7:07 pm : Cory Ryan - One to Watch
Filed Under: ReviewsDiscussion: C[1]mments
So says Amazon.com
It’s good to hear different styles on the same CD instead of a bunch of sound a likes. Cory definitely doesn’t sound like “so-and-so”. THAT’S a good thing. Cory’s Blank Slate infuses rock-n-roll with a lyrical depth, whose original sound cannot be easily categorized. Reviewers say: “Cory Ryan’s Blank Slate is a rarity. At times it sounds as robust as early U2, at other times it takes cues from vaudeville sound and at other times sounds like the better end of singer/songwriter fare. The single-bound ‘Lauren’ is catchy as anything on the radio today and ‘Good Now That You’re Gone’ is a raunchy roadhouse jump-n-jiver that the Stray Cats wouldn’t be ashamed to cover. One of the best aspects of the album is its overall cohesion, despite the fact any of the albums songs could stand on their own, independently.” Cory Ryan is noted for his high energy and just plain fun style of delivering music, yet his music speaks to the soul. His fate has been sealed as a singer, songwriter, and electrifying performer. His breakout CD “Blank Slate” has been met with adulation and success.
Check out ‘Blank Slate’ or listen to samples!

I am lovin all the LAURENS on Myspace by the way. Thanks for all your great messages about the song. I never thought a song about a friend would hit so many girls to movement. You girls are the best. If all of you write into the MTV show “THE HILLS” I bet we could get it on MTV. One more Lauren that is taking names and bustin balls We are just starting to book up the rest of the year with some acoustic moments and some where the hole band will rock the stage.
Love you all, Cory

Today I spent hours putting stuff on my Itunes, I think I am the last one to figure out how these things work. CLICK and DRAG over and over hmm pretty good.
Well I have also thought long and hard about this blog. I think Blogs are our version of the Confession Room in any good reality show.
Yea I watch reality shows. I think TV as a hole is dumbing me down. much like a hot day drains your energy. I have been watching Flavor of Love and Brady and the Beauty, Fun stuff but I think it effects the brain like Ho-Ho’s and Twinkies. (But if its on I am totally there)
